HISTORY

Since the Salesians' arrival in the Darjeeling region in 1938, the district of Kalimpong remained elusive to their reach for nearly four decades. However, in 1997, a pivotal step was taken with the acquisition of land at 14th Mile in Kalimpong to establish a vocational training center, addressing the area's growing needs. Under the stewardship of Fr. George Thirumalachalil, construction commenced a year later, culminating in the inauguration of the non-formal Vocational Training Centre in 2003, christened as 'Don Bosco JOTI Job-Oriented Training Institute'.

Don Bosco JOTI, Kalimpong, founded in 2003, caters to school dropouts and economically disadvantaged youth, proudly under the patronage of the Salesians of Don Bosco. Guided by its mantra "Learn, Earn, and Heaven," the institute is dedicated to integrating youth into the formal job market through skill development initiatives tailored to market demands.

In 2005, the Salesians expanded their influence to include the area around 14th Mile Ecchebasti as a quasi-parish. Beyond vocational training, the institute has embarked on educational endeavors, establishing two schools, one on the existing campus and another in Samthar Village.
