Driven by their commitment to spread the Good News, the Salesians extended their mission beyond Bengal, venturing into Bihar. Under the leadership of Fr. Gimenez, they assumed responsibility for the work in Purnea on 31 May 1981, succeeding the efforts initiated by the Capuchins in 1836 and continued by the Jesuits from 1887. With a focus on providing education to local youth, the Salesians established a Hindi-medium school. In 1998, the Purnea parish, also under the Salesians' care, became the cathedral parish of the newly formed Purnea diocese, subsequently transitioning back to diocesan administration.
Presently, the Salesians in Purnea primarily engage in educational initiatives, notably serving the lower middle class and impoverished communities through their highly esteemed school. With over 1000 students in two campuses, the school plays a vital role in the community imparting wholistic education. Additionally, the non-formal training center offers vocational courses in typing and tailoring to approximately 40 young individuals. The hostel accommodates around 50 high school students from neighboring parishes, facilitating evangelization efforts in the surrounding villages.
