The genesis of Siliguri's Salesian presence traces back to 1962 when the inaugural institution, under the patronage of Mary Help of Christians, was established. However, its tenure was short-lived as it came under military administration. Undeterred, a new chapter unfolded in 1968 with the inception of an agricultural center, laying the groundwork for subsequent developments.
In 1973, the trajectory shifted with the commencement of an English Medium school, culminating in official recognition by October 1976. Throughout this evolution, Rev. Fr. Taverna's unwavering commitment to the local Catholic community remained steadfast, blossoming into a full-fledged parish over time. The narrative of progress continued with the establishment of a novitiate in 1981 and the inauguration of the Savio Centre in 1983, enriching Siliguri's spiritual landscape.
The year 1983 also marked the arrival of the MSMHC Sisters, heralding a new era of support for the parish. Subsequently, in 1998, they initiated a boarding facility for girls. Initially, the children availed themselves of education at the Night School of Don Bosco, but soon a Primary School emerged within the parish compound at the Savio Youth Centre.
In a momentous gesture of trust, the diocese bestowed perpetual ownership of the parish upon the Salesians in 1990, affirming their enduring commitment. Three years later, in 1993, the landscape was further adorned with the construction and consecration of a magnificent Shrine dedicated to Don Bosco, a testament to the flourishing legacy of faith and service in Siliguri.
