In May 2008, the Salesians embarked on their first venture into Bangladesh, selecting the remote village of Utrail in the Netrakona district, responding to an invitation from the Bishop of Mymensingh. Led by Fr. Alencherry, the first Salesian presence was established in April 2009, with additional members joining in February 2010. Officially inaugurated on 18 December 2009, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Salesian Society, the Utrail mission encompasses various initiatives:
Pastoral care is provided at the parish of Mary Help of Christians, helping people grow in faith and develop socially through Self Help Groups and a Health Care Society. St. Xavier’s School, Utrail, along with several smaller village schools, offers formal education. Don Bosco College Telunjia provides Higher Secondary education. Youth engage in activities at the youth center and oratory, primarily on Fridays and Sundays. Two hostels serve boys from nearby villages attending St. Xavier’s School and Don Bosco College. An Aspirantate or minor seminary was established since June 2010, currently housing 16 aspirants at the Telunjia campus. The Mother Teresa hostel in Utrail, managed by the Religious of the Daughters of Jesus congregation, caters to girls studying at Don Bosco College, Telunjia, after its reconstruction.
