Salesian College, an esteemed minority institution of the Catholic Church under the stewardship of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Kolkata Province, hosts over 1400 students pursuing B.A., B.Com, and B.Sc studies at North Bengal University.
Established in Shillong in 1933 and later relocated to Sonada in 1938, Salesian College operates under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. Over the years, it has expanded its academic offerings, gaining affiliations with Calcutta University for various courses before becoming one of the founding colleges of NBU in 1962.
In subsequent years, Salesian College diversified its curriculum, introducing Honours courses in English, History, Education, and Philosophy, alongside pioneering initiatives such as the Computer Skills Department and career-oriented programs in Communicative English and Tourism & Travel Management.
The institution's Siliguri campus, inaugurated in 2009, offers a range of courses including B.Com Honours in Accountancy and Management, B.Sc Computer Science Honours, and certificate courses in various disciplines.
Recognized for its academic excellence, Salesian College has received A Grade accreditation from NAAC and been conferred the status of a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by UGC. It continues to foster capacity building through its research and extension activities, inviting young minds and their families to join hands in shaping an ideal society.
On 26 May 2023, College was conferred Autonomous status.
