An offspring of the S.D.C. is the V.T.I. Dumka. The institute was inaugurated on October 7, 1990. The institution was handed to the Salesians in 2009.
Don Bosco St.Joseph's Vocational Training Institute, Dumka is one of the leading establishments, training 100s of students in marketing and communication for over a decade.
The pedagogy of this center is to train and to handhold support towards placements to the youth, making them self-reliant. While expanding its reach, the center is now jointly running programs with the Don Bosco Tech Society with job roles of Assistant Electrician, General Duty Assistant, Sewing Machine Operator, and Food and Beverage Service Steward.
Currently 60 youngsters receive vocational training in office management, driving, tailoring, advanced computer applications, and basic computer skills. Additionally, 50 students follow the Don Bosco Tech programmes in electrical and spoken English. Personality development and spoken English is an annual programme with high demand. Catechists and village leaders are very active and provide great support in pastoral ministry.
