Patriotic vibrations on Independence Day

Sonada, 14 August 2025: Salesian College Sonada Campus  remembered and honoured the freedom fighters of our land on 14th  August, 2025 through a dance-drama stage presentation known as Patriotic Vibrations. 

Patriotic Vibrations is an annual college event preceding the Independence Day where students pay homage to the nation and its struggle for freedom through various stage performances. 

This year the presentation took the mode of inter-departmental competition where the seven departments of the college turned to the story of the nation’s struggle for freedom and brought alive on stage some of the unrepeatable moments of the country’s long walk to freedom.  Starting with the heroic resistance put up by Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, the various presentations took the audience through the contributions of Subhash Chandra Bose, the patriotic writings of Rabindranath Tagore, the heroic resistance put up by Bhagat Singh, the non-violent movement of Gandhiji and many others.  Each of the department dedicated ten minutes to relive significant moments in the lives of those who laid down their lives for the nation’s freedom. 

Among  the presentations the department of Mass communication impressed upon the audience by showcasing how the print media created awareness among the  pre-independent  Indian masses, particularly in Bengal by the publication of Amrita Bazar Patrika which took strong stand against British colonial policies. 

Intertwining with heartwarming music, patriotic songs and mesmerizing dances the artists communicated very powerfully the struggle of the nation to free itself from the unjust hegemony of the British. Speaking about the performance, Rashik Chettri, one of the judges said, “The performance made us remember patriotism and, in this competition, everyone is a winner.  It was very tough for us to pick up one as the winner”. 

Sharing her feelings, the chief organizer of the event, Ms. Rose Noor, faculty, and animator of music club said, “The students came up with new concepts which took us through various moments of the history of our independence.  The event helped both the students and faculty to get the feeling of patriotism and to know how wonderful is our history.”

As the stage presentation came to a closure Br. Jose Puthenpurackel, the vice-principal addressing the students and faculty reminded that everyone can contribute to the progress of our country. Referring to the tremendous progress that the tiny country of Singapore brought about in the last few decades, he invited the students to make their contribution to make our nation great. Trying to bring across this idea he said, “When all of us make small efforts to make this country great, our country will become great”.

Mr. Anirudh Gurung, Student Council Secretary, while thanking everyone present said,   “Thank you for bringing your passion and patriotism to the stage.  May we not only carry forward the pride of our freedom but also the responsibility to use it well.  Just as we are united today for this event may we be united for the progress of our nation.”
